Chicken prices in Iran rose by more than 50 percent in one day

On Monday, December 25, Iranian media reported a 52 percent increase in chicken prices in the country in one day, and the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation reported that "chicken is also disappearing from household tables."

Reports indicate that the price of chicken was around 23,000 tomans on Sunday, but rose to 35,000 tomans on Monday, representing a 52 percent increase.

Hassan Darvishian, head of the General Inspectorate of the country, told the Supreme Council of the Judiciary on Monday that the "shortage of livestock inputs" and the "lack of increase" in the price of one-day-old chicks are the main reasons for the increase in chicken prices.

According to a report published by the JamJam newspaper's Telegram channel, the price of one kilogram of chicken was 12,000 tomans in April of this year, which rose to 17,900 tomans in July, and 23,000 tomans in November.

In an interview with some Kurdish citizens, the Iranian Broadcasting Agency quoted them as saying that they can no longer afford to buy chicken.

Meanwhile, Mohammad Reza Talaei, CEO of the Livestock Support Company, said that the increase in chicken prices was due to a "short-term gap in production" and that "based on the hatchings that have been carried out, the price of chicken will be balanced in 10 days."

He added that 300 tons of hot and frozen chicken are planned to be distributed daily in different provinces of the country at prices of 18,500 and 15,000 tomans, respectively.

In recent days, numerous other reports have been published in Iranian media about the increase in the prices of other meat products and the inability of people to buy them.
