Consumption of counterfeit alcohol claimed the lives of three people in Golestan

The Public Relations Office of the Golestan University of Medical Sciences announced the deaths of three people in one day due to consumption of counterfeit alcohol in the province.

On Thursday, December 4, IRNA news agency reported, quoting Mohammad Reza Zare, head of Al-Jalil Aqqala Hospital, that two consumers of counterfeit alcohol who had visited the hospital the previous day developed serious conditions and died in the early hours of the morning.

Mr. Zare then added that the third person also died a few hours later.

He did not mention the age or gender of these people, but urged people who have symptoms of poisoning due to consuming counterfeit alcohol to seek medical attention as soon as possible.

Amir Shir Tomaj, the governor of Aqqala, has also announced the opening of a special case to investigate this issue at the security and law enforcement centers of the city.

The production, sale, and supply of alcoholic beverages is prohibited in Iran, and for this reason, numerous reports of citizens being poisoned due to the consumption of homemade or counterfeit alcohol are published annually.

After the outbreak of the coronavirus in Iran, numerous reports were published of the deaths of people who, according to officials at the University of Medical Sciences in the provinces of Iran, had tried to drink or gargle counterfeit alcohol to "prevent contracting the coronavirus."
