Video of another police killing released; this time in Esfarayn

Following the release of a video of a citizen in Esfarayen being beaten by police officers, which resulted in his death, the military prosecutor of North Khorasan Province said that the victim's family has filed a complaint titled "shooting resulting in murder."

On Saturday, November 25, a video was posted on social media showing two police officers standing over a man on the sidewalk and engaging in a fight, with the cameraman saying that the police shot the man with a gun.

Evidence indicates that the incident occurred in the city of Esfarayen and the victim has been identified as 37-year-old Abbas Minbashi.

Mojtaba Zare, the military prosecutor of North Khorasan, announced on Sunday, November 24, referring to this video, that the victim's family filed a complaint at the military prosecutor's office, claiming that the shooting resulted in murder.

According to ISNA news agency, he added that "we requested the provincial director general of forensic medicine to conduct an autopsy on the body and determine the cause of death and the type of injuries with care and speed."

Mr. Zare added that in order to investigate the manner of the victim's death, judicial officers have been asked to thoroughly examine the scene of the conflict and collect and send the footage from the CCTV cameras at the scene.

This is the second case of assault resulting in death by police that has been reported in the media in recent days.

Earlier, a video was posted on social media showing a police officer using pepper spray and an electric stun gun on the face and body of a man who was handcuffed to a bar. The victim has been identified as Mehrdad Sepehri.

This incident occurred in Mashhad, and Mehdi Akhlaqi, the military prosecutor of Khorasan Razavi, said on Saturday that "a case has been filed in this regard at the Khorasan Razavi Military Prosecutor's Office and the deceased's family has also filed a complaint with the prosecutor's office."

Mr. Akhlaqi announced on Sunday that "the offending officer was arrested following the death of a young man during an arrest by order of the military prosecutor's office."

He added: "Two other police officers who transported the victim to the police station have also been investigated, and investigations are underway into witnesses and informants, and will continue tomorrow."

The release of this video has angered many social media users, and some of them, referring to the extensive coverage of George Floyd's death at the hands of an American police officer in Iranian state media, have criticized the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation's silence on the death of this Iranian citizen, calling it a double standard.
