US State Department Spokesperson: Murad Tahbaz is another victim of the regime's campaign of wrongful detention

On Sunday, January 11, US State Department spokesperson Morgan Ortagus called for the immediate release of Morad Tahbaz, an Iranian-American environmental activist imprisoned in Iran.

He tweeted: "Three years ago, the Iranian regime arrested Morad Tahbaz, an American and British citizen and environmental activist who survived cancer."

"He is suffering in prison and is another victim of the regime's campaign of unjust detention," Ms. Ortagus added.

Finally, using two hashtags, he called for the immediate release of Murad Tahbaz, as well as Siamak and Baqer Namazi.

Western analysts have repeatedly said that the Islamic Republic uses dual nationals as hostages to extract money and privileges from Western governments. A number of Iranian-American citizens, including Siamak and Bagher Namazi and Morad Tahbaz, and citizens of other countries, including Kamran Ghaderi and Anousheh Ashouri, are currently imprisoned in Iran.

The United States Department of State has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic's regime's arbitrary and unjustified detention of American and other citizens, including dual-national Iranians, and called for their immediate and unconditional release.
