Arrest of Senior Hamas Commanders at Al-Shifa Hospital

The Israeli army announced the arrest of several senior Hamas commanders at the Al-Shifa Hospital.

The Israeli army stated in a statement issued last Thursday, March 21 (Farvardin 2), that during ongoing operations by Israeli forces at the Al-Shifa Hospital located in the Gaza Strip, several senior Hamas commanders were arrested and 140 armed militants were killed. The Israeli army said regarding these individuals: “The arrested armed personnel have been transferred to the General Security Service for interrogation, while the Israeli army’s operations at the Al-Shifa medical complex continue.”

The statement mentioned that 600 militants were detained during this operation. In addition to senior Hamas commanders, members of the Palestinian Islamic Jihad group, which directed and commanded not only operations in the Gaza Strip but also in the West Bank, were also arrested.

The Israeli army, noting that large quantities of weapons and documents were discovered during the operations at Al-Shifa Hospital, emphasized in the statement: “Based on information and data from the Military Intelligence Organization and the Shin Bet security service, the army launched its targeted attack to pursue senior Hamas officials who had established their positions at the Al-Shifa medical complex.”

Regarding the arrest of Hamas commanders, the Israeli army added: “During recent arrests, prominent Hamas commanders including ‘Amro Aziza,’ who heads the group’s activities in the Nablus area in the West Bank, ‘Mahmoud al-Qawasmi,’ who planned and financed the abduction of three boys in 2014, and ‘Hamdallah Hassan Ali,’ who promoted hostile activities in the United States, were arrested.”
