Human Rights Organization: At Least 20 Protesters Arrested in Kermanshah

The human rights organization “Hengaw” reported on Tuesday, August 27, the arrest of 20 residents of Mehdieh neighborhood who had taken to the streets for the second day to protest the lack of water and electricity, as well as to show support for the protests of Ahvaz residents.

These individuals blocked streets leading to the neighborhood on Monday to protest the absence of water and electricity, and also expressed solidarity with the people of Ahvaz’s protests.

Hengaw reported, citing its sources, that more than 20 citizens were arrested by security forces and transferred to an unknown location, with the identities of only 9 of them confirmed so far.

One resident of Mehdieh neighborhood (Darre Deriz district) stated: “This neighborhood has become completely militarized and security forces, in addition to arresting citizens, have conducted house searches and completely ransacked the homes of some residents.”

Hengaw has released videos showing security forces firing at protesters.

In recent days, several provinces across the country have launched widespread protests in support of Khuzestan protesters’s crisis over water shortages.

Security forces have arrested dozens during these protests, and according to the latest reports, at least 9 people in Khuzestan have been killed by gunfire from security forces.

Despite the security atmosphere and internet cuts, protests in Khuzestan have continued for the past 12 days.
