Church Shooting in Texas Leaves at Least 26 Dead

American media outlets reported that dozens have been killed and wounded in an attack on a Baptist church in Sutherland Springs, Texas. Police have listed the death toll at a minimum of 26 people.

According to the Associated Press, citing Wilson County Commissioner, the attack has resulted in at least 26 deaths and a number of injured. The ages of the victims ranged from five to 72 years old.

The attacker opened fire on those present upon entering the church, and according to authorities, subsequently fled but was killed after some time.

However, the Guadalupe County Sheriff stated it is unclear whether the attacker was killed by police or took his own life.

According to a France Press Agency report, the attacker entered the church on Sunday morning local time, at a time when approximately 50 people typically attend the church’s morning prayer service according to eyewitnesses.

The news agency reported, citing local media, that a two-year-old child was also among the wounded in the shooting.

Donald Trump, the President of the United States who is visiting Japan, responded immediately to the news, stating that U.S. federal police and law enforcement officials are at the scene, and he himself is following up on the matter from Japan.

In another response, the Governor of Texas described the attack as “a devilish act” in a statement.
