Trial of Nahid Toghli Begins on “Security” Charges in Islamic Revolution Court

Tehran’s Islamic Revolution Court has begun the trial of Nahid Toghli, an Iranian-German dual national, on charges of acting against national security. Maryam Claren has expressed concern about her mother’s physical condition. The date of the next court session remains unclear.
The first session of Nahid Toghli’s trial was held on April 28 (8th of Ordibehesht) at Branch 26 of the Islamic Revolution Court in Tehran. It has been reported that the next session of her trial will be held soon. However, no specific date for this session has been announced.
France’s news agency reported on Wednesday, April 28, about the first session of Nahid Toghli’s trial. Nahid Toghli, who is 66 years old, was arrested in her apartment in Tehran in October of last year (25th of Mehr).
According to information released by the International Human Rights Defense Community, Nahid Toghli has been a civil activist and an advocate for women’s rights and freedom of expression.
Maryam Claren, daughter of Nahid Toghli, announced the beginning of her mother’s trial at the aforementioned branch of the Islamic Revolution Court in Tehran through a Twitter post. Nahid Toghli’s daughter also expressed lack of information about the date of the next session of her mother’s trial.
Maryam Claren stated that her mother has been granted the right to visit her brothers after seven months in prison. However, Nahid Toghli’s brothers had been prevented from attending her trial session.
Iranian Islamic Republic officials have classified Nahid Toghli’s charges as “security-related” and accused her of propaganda against the system.
Maryam Claren told a reporter from France’s news agency that her mother is an architect and is currently imprisoned in Evin Prison.
Nahid Toghli’s daughter also announced that her mother spent the last four weeks in solitary confinement. Maryam Claren has expressed concern about her mother’s health condition in Evin Prison.
According to Maryam Claren’s statements, her mother’s defense lawyer gained access to the indictment text and her client’s file for the first time last Saturday after several months.
Heiko Maas, Germany’s Foreign Minister, also announced in October of last year that he had been informed of the arrest of this Iranian-German dual national.
The International Human Rights Defense Community has declared Nahid Toghli innocent and called for the immediate release of this civil activist and women’s rights advocate.
