Germany will not send any fighter jets to Ukraine

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz said during a meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Berlin that his country has no plans to send fighter jets to Ukraine. Scholz called for a diplomatic solution to the Ukrainian crisis and called on Russia to withdraw its troops from Ukraine.

German Chancellor Olaf Schulz called on Russian President Vladimir Putin to declare an immediate ceasefire to stop the bloodshed and withdraw Russian troops from Ukraine.

The German Chancellor said during her meeting with Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau in Berlin that the war is a disaster for the Ukrainian people, but that the Russian people will also suffer from this war.

Continuing his remarks regarding the sending of warplanes to Ukraine, Schulz emphasized: "Humanitarian aid will be provided, weapons will be delivered, but warplanes will definitely not be sent."

Poland had offered to deliver its MiG-29 fighter jets to the United States via Ramstein Air Base in Germany, so that the US could supply the jets directly to the Ukrainian military. The offer was rejected by the Pentagon due to the “logistical challenges and geopolitical sensitivity” of the move.

But Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has called for "urgent consideration" of the Polish government's proposal, saying: "Russia is using missiles, planes and helicopters against us, against civilians, against our cities, against our infrastructure. It is the humanitarian duty of the world to react."

German Chancellor Angela Merkel says: "A military solution to the conflict is pointless, everything must now be put on a diplomatic path. Germany is coordinating with Canada and other countries to advance negotiations between Russia and Ukraine. The international community does not accept Russia's actions in Ukraine."

Canadian Prime Minister Trudeau also said during the meeting that Canada and Germany stand with the people of Ukraine.
