Amine Zahri Sari, an Arab-Iranian prisoner, was "attacked" in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz

Ameneh Zaheri Sari, an Arab-Iranian prisoner in the women's ward of Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz, was beaten and injured by the guards of the ward and suffered severe injuries to her arm.

The Campaign for the Defense of Political and Civil Prisoners reported on Wednesday, July 3 that Ameneh Zaheri Sari, an Iranian Arab prisoner, was mistreated and beaten by guards in the women's ward after protesting against the mistreatment and poor conditions in Sepidar Prison in Ahvaz. The prisoner's arm was severely injured, but the prison authorities are preventing her from receiving medical treatment.

Earlier in June of this year, an informed source told the campaign that Amina Zahari Sari's physical condition was not favorable and that she was suffering from severe swelling in some of her body parts. According to the diagnosis of the doctor at Sepidar Prison Clinic in Ahvaz, she should be transferred to the hospital. Although bail has been provided for her release, the court has opposed her release and is preventing her from being sent to medical centers outside the prison.

Amineh Zaharisari, a graduate of accounting, was arrested on November 5, 2018, in the wake of the widespread arrests of Khuzestan citizens and just one day after the arrest of her brother and father by intelligence agents. On December 6 of the same year, Branch 12 of the Ahvaz Revolutionary Court issued a bail of three billion rials for this political prisoner.

According to available information, despite the issuance of bail for Ms. Zahri Sari, authorities and security institutions in Ahvaz oppose the release of this political prisoner, and at this moment, there is no precise information available about the reason for the arrest and the charges against this prisoner.

According to a report by Amnesty International, in 2018, more than seven thousand people, including participants in demonstrations, students, journalists, women's rights activists, environmental activists, labor activists, and ethnic and religious minority rights activists, were arrested in Iran, and hundreds were sentenced to prison.
