Angola bans Islam

Angola is the first country in the world to ban Islam and close all mosques in the country.

According to the Conservative Post, Angolan President José Eduardo dos Santos explained the move by stating: "The ban on Islam will put an end to the influence of this religion in our country."

Rosa Cruz Silva, Angola's Minister of Culture, pointed out that this action was taken based on the fight against religious sects, emphasizing: "The religion of Islam is not approved by the Ministry of Justice and Human Rights of Angola, and for this reason, this religion and its followers have been declared illegal and all their mosques have been closed."

Angola is a country with a population of 95 percent Christian. According to the US State Department, the country is home to about 90,000 Muslims, the majority of whom are immigrants from West Africa and Lebanon.
