Asylum and Immigration

The European Union allowed 33,000 refugees to enter.

The European Union intends to open a legal and safe path to European countries for refugees; people in need will not have to risk their lives and property to migrate.

According to a plan approved by the European Union, more than 32,700 refugees from Middle Eastern and North African countries have entered European territory so far.

According to Dimitris Avramopoulos, the European Union's Commissioner for Asylum, about 4,100 of these people have gone to Germany, and the country has done its part well.

Thus, the European Union has only implemented two-thirds of its plan, but is still lagging behind the commitments it made.

The European Union plans to open a legal and safe route to European countries for refugees from dangerous areas.

By next October, about 50,000 refugees from countries such as Libya, Ethiopia, Turkey, and Jordan will be heading to European countries. These people will receive permission to enter Europe through the representations of European countries in a safe and legal manner.

Germany, which has so far accepted 4,000 people under the aforementioned program, has announced its readiness to accept another 10,000.

Dimitris Avramopoulos, the EU Commissioner for Asylum, says the aim of the program is to bring people in need to Europe safely and legally.

The advantage of this program is that it cuts off the hands of smugglers; it minimizes the risks and hardships of traveling to Europe for refugees, so that other refugees do not risk their lives and property to migrate.

The European Union adopted the program in 2017 to prevent illegal and deadly journeys through dangerous routes such as the Mediterranean Sea.

To implement this program, EU countries voluntarily accept refugees and in return receive a total of 500 million euros (half a billion euros) in funding.

This program was carried out with the support and coordination of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees.
