Execution of 9 prisoners in Qezl-e-Hesar Prison, Karaj

The death sentences of 9 prisoners in Qezl-e-Hesar Prison in Karaj were carried out this morning.
Today, Wednesday, November 8, the death sentences of 9 prisoners in Qezl-e-Hesar Prison in Karaj, who had been transferred to solitary confinement the previous day, were carried out at dawn today.
Three of the prisoners were sentenced to death on drug-related charges, two of whom have been identified as Bahman Fathollahzadeh and Rasoul Teymouri. Five other prisoners were sentenced to death on murder charges and one was sentenced to life on the charge of Moharebeh by the judicial authorities.
It should be noted that the execution of the aforementioned prisoners' sentences has not yet been announced or publicized by prison officials and relevant institutions.
According to the annual reports of the Center for Statistics, Publications and Works of the Human Rights Activists' Association in Iran, in the past year, from October 10, 2022 to October 8, 2023, more than 659 citizens, including 17 women and one child offender, were executed, which is a 24 percent increase compared to previous years. Of the aforementioned executions, seven were executed in public.
According to published reports, the execution of those convicted on drug-related charges has taken place while the Islamic Republic regime is itself one of the importers of drugs. Also, the execution of child offenders is not mentioned in any law, and child offenders should not only not be transferred to prison, but should also be sent to correctional and educational centers to serve their sentences.
