Archbishop Atallah Hanna criticizes US Secretary of State Marco Rubio

Palestinian Orthodox Archbishop Atallah Hanna strongly criticized US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio made the sign of the cross on his forehead during the Ash Wednesday observance, and Atallah Hanna, the Archbishop of Orthodox Christians in Palestine, reacted strongly to Marco Rubio's action and criticized him in a speech last Thursday, March 6.

Atallah Hanna, while referring to Washington's support for Israel in its ongoing massacre and war against Christians, published a picture of US Secretary of State Marco Rubio along with a post on his Facebook page and wrote: "A true Christian should be on the side of the oppressed, the suffering, and the tortured, and not on the side of the oppressors who commit violence and cruelty against the people."

He condemned the politicians' insistence on distorting the message of Christianity through their positions, calling it contrary to the teachings of the Bible, and described these politicians as domestic enemies who target the church from within.

In his speech, he said: "Those who are proud of the cross and declare their Christianity must accept that a historical injustice has been inflicted on the Palestinian people, and this injustice must end so that the Palestinians can enjoy the freedom and peace they deserve."

These reactions to Rubio's action come after he announced on Saturday that Donald Trump had signed a decision to accelerate the delivery of military aid to Israel, while simultaneously lifting the conditions imposed by Joe Biden. He also emphasized the main priority of the Donald Trump administration, which is US support for Israel, in a phone call with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Tuesday.
