More than a thousand refugees rescued from danger of death in the Mediterranean Sea

The Aquarius rescue ship belonging to Doctors Without Borders has managed to save 629 refugees in the Mediterranean Sea. The Moroccan navy has also reported saving many more refugees in the sea.

The Aquarius rescue ship, belonging to Doctors Without Borders, made six rescues in the Mediterranean Sea in its latest operation, rescuing a total of 629 migrants. All of the migrants were rescued, Doctors Without Borders said in a tweet.

Among the refugees were 123 unaccompanied minors, 11 children and seven pregnant women. Doctors Without Borders reported that rescuing the refugees was particularly difficult in two boats, as one of the boats broke, causing more than 40 refugees to fall into the sea and disappear in the darkness of the night.

The Aquarius ship, which rescued 229 migrants near the Libyan border, has taken on another 400 people, according to German news agency DPA. The migrants were rescued by the Italian navy, coast guard or merchant ships.

Moroccan navy ships also rescued 472 migrants who were trying to reach Europe by sea and were caught in the waves. The Moroccan navy said it had rescued several boats of migrants who had run into trouble.

A report on the matter said that among the refugees rescued by the Moroccan navy were 28 women, 27 minors and three infants. The report did not mention the nationalities of the refugees.
