Shooting in Iranian parliament; "suicide explosion" at Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum

News agencies in Iran are reporting shootings in the "corridors" of the parliament as well as at the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini on Wednesday, June 7.

Reports indicate that several people were injured and wounded during the shootings.

According to Iranian news agencies, on Wednesday, within minutes of each other, several armed individuals attacked the Iranian parliament and the shrine of Ayatollah Khomeini.

At 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, news agencies reported that an individual entered the parliament building and opened fire on security forces, and three of the security forces were injured in the clash.

Minutes later, ISNA news agency reported that four armed men entered the parliament and continued to shoot, targeting a number of parliament security forces.

According to the Iranian Broadcasting Corporation (SDA), Tehran representative Elias Hazrati also said: "The attackers were three people armed with two Kalashnikovs and a Colt."

Tasnim News Agency also announced, based on "hearsay," that one of the parliament security officers was killed in the clash.

The news agency also announced that no official source had confirmed this news and that it had published it solely based on hearsay.

According to Iranian news agencies, after the incident, the exit and entrance doors of the parliament were closed and representatives were prevented from leaving the public court. However, the public session of the parliament continued.

While ISNA news agency reported ongoing clashes between armed individuals and parliament security forces, Akbar Ranjbarzadeh, a member of the parliament's presiding board, announced the arrest of an armed individual.

According to Mizan News Agency, he said: "This incident occurred after the first gate and outside the closed area of ​​the parliament."

The IRGC is responsible for protecting the parliament and most government institutions in Iran. The parliament building has several entrances and exits, some of which are several hundred meters away from the public court building, and there are also several electronic doors in this distance.

Attack on Ayatollah Khomeini's mausoleum

Minutes after reports of an attack on the parliament building were published, the Fars News Agency and Iran Daily reported on Twitter that a gunman had entered the shrine of Imam Khomeini moments earlier and opened fire, injuring several people.

Iran's labor news agency, ILNA, reported that one of the attackers blew himself up and two others were arrested.

According to the news agency, one person present at the scene was killed and five others were injured in the incident.

The Iranian Radio and Television Agency also reported that four armed men entered the mausoleum of Ayatollah Khomeini and began shooting at people, injuring two people.

The news agency, citing an unnamed "informed source," said that one of the individuals blew himself up, one person was killed by security forces, and a woman was arrested.
