Hijab and the politics of coercion

According to FCNN news agency; In recent months, Iranian society, both men and women, have been protesting against social pressures by appearing in the streets in absolute silence, holding symbols of the hijab and religion.

Meanwhile, the police, the guidance patrol and the Basij have beaten them, arrested them and sentenced them for the crime of public display of sin. However, the people protesting against the compulsory hijab are not only not giving up their position, but their numbers are increasing day by day and they are striving to achieve their basic rights.

Perhaps you have not paid much attention, but this criminal title was included in the Islamic Penal Code with specific plans and goals in the first years after the revolution.

After the Islamic Revolution, in line with the realization of the fourth and seventy-seventh articles of the Constitution, the Iranian legislator has paid special attention to jurisprudential and Islamic sources as the most important source of legislation in formulating the relevant laws.

Article 638 of the Islamic Penal Code is one of these laws. In the said article, pretending to commit a forbidden act is considered a crime and is subject to punishment. The inclusion of the word forbidden in this article and the uncertainty of its examples have provided the ground for broad and harmful interpretations and interpretations of this article by judges. Therefore, this article is in clear contradiction to the Iranian Constitution. Because only a forbidden act is punishable if the legislator has foreseen its type and extent, not a title that covers every act and the choice is up to the judge.

Finally, with the awareness of the above-mentioned criminal title, it should be understood that the problem is not the hijab at all, because men also agree with women in this regard. The main problem is that the hijab is compulsory. And this is actually a symbol of taking away human freedoms, such as freedom of speech, belief, and thought. People want peace, love, and a safe society. They are looking for freedom of thought, as well as peace and a stress-free presence in society. An environment where one's beliefs, thoughts, and tendencies are not scrutinized.

For what sin are you arresting, condemning, and punishing the children of this land and water? For what sin are you torturing his soul and body? He seeks freedom and free thought… He seeks peace and friendship.
