A brave woman defends street vendors against municipal officials

A brave woman stood up to municipal officials in support of the rights of street vendors in Gorgan.

A video has been published on social media showing municipal officers and police officers attacking street vendors in Gorgan.

The start of the new year and Nowruz is just around the corner, and many street vendors have set up their stalls on the street in hopes of making money so they can provide a halal meal for their families. However, they have always been oppressed by municipal and police officers and have not been allowed to operate.

The person who recorded the incident says: "Yesterday evening, municipal officers and police officers attacked street vendors in Gorgan and prevented them from making a profit. A woman who was passing by decided to stand where she could, ignoring the situation, and shout out the common pain of the people. She stood alone in front of the officers and shouted that they would not allow them to take the vendors' belongings with them. She also pulled out any belongings that the officers had left in their car. In this video, she tells the officers: They eat halal bread, they do not steal or embezzle. She also threatens the officers and shouts that they are not allowed to touch the vendors' belongings. She also tells the people that they (the Islamic Republic) want your women to commit corruption and your young men to steal. With her stand, the rest of the people also united with her and did not allow the officers to touch the vendors' belongings."
