Two detainees in Evin Prison sentenced to a total of more than 23 years in prison

Reza Mohammad Hosseini and Khaled Pirzadeh, citizens detained in Evin Prison, have been sentenced by the Revolutionary Court to a total of 23 years and 6 months in prison.

Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb, a civil activist and one of the signatories of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei's resignation letter, announced on his Instagram page that Khaled Pirzadeh was sentenced to a total of 7 years in prison on charges of "propaganda against the regime," "gathering and colluding with the intention of disrupting the country's security," and "insulting the leadership," and Reza Mohammad-Hosseini was sentenced to a total of 16 years and six months in prison on charges of "propaganda against the regime," "gathering and colluding with the intention of disrupting the country's security," "insulting the leadership," "disobeying orders of officers while on duty," "illegal exit from the border," and "illegal entry into the country."

This sentence was issued to these two prisoners by the branches of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, while if confirmed and based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code regarding the consolidation of sentences, only 5 years of Khaled Pirzadeh's sentence and 7 years of Reza Mohammad Hosseini's sentence will be enforceable.

According to news published on social media, the verdict issued on Saturday, February 25, was communicated to these two political prisoners in prison.

According to available information, Reza Mohammad Hosseini was arrested by security forces in May of this year, transferred to Evin Prison, and is currently being held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison; Khaled Pirzadeh, whose exact date of arrest is unknown, was transferred to Evin Prison by security forces after his arrest and is currently being held in Ward 4 of Evin Prison.

In his Instagram post regarding Reza Mohammad Hosseini, Zartosht Ahmadi-Ragheb also announced that this political prisoner is currently on a hunger strike, a hunger strike that began two months ago.

Previously, Voice of America reported that this political prisoner had gone on a hunger strike along with five other prisoners in late July to protest the unfair trial process and prison conditions.

The United States has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of protesters, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by the regime ruling that country.

The US State Department says that the Iranian regime has arrested thousands of protesters, civil activists, and representatives of workers and other trade unions in the last two years.
