Reuters: Security Council not considering Iran's complaint over Fakhrizadeh's killing

A few hours after the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, the Islamic Republic had complained to the UN Security Council about the matter. It is now said that the likelihood of the body's Friday meeting pursuing the case of Fakhrizadeh's killing is very slim.

Diplomats from Security Council member countries have announced that they do not believe that the issue of Iran's complaint regarding the killing of Mohsen Fakhrizadeh will be placed on the body's agenda.

According to Reuters news agency from New York, the Islamic Republic of Iran has asked the Security Council not only to condemn the killing of Fakhrizadeh, but also to take action against the perpetrators.

Reuters, citing diplomats, said the 15-member Security Council is unlikely to address Iran's complaint about Fakhrizadeh's case behind closed doors on Friday. For that to happen, there would have to be either a consensus among the Security Council members or a request from one of the member states.

Jerry Matila, South Africa's ambassador to the United Nations and current president of the Security Council, told reporters on Tuesday that no member state of the Security Council has made such a request so far.

It has been said that since no country or organization has claimed responsibility for the attack on Fakhrizadeh, taking action against the perpetrators of this attack in the Security Council is pointless.

The Islamic Republic claims that the attack was carried out by Israel, while Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has refused to comment on the deadly attack on Fakhrizadeh's car.

Iran had also made a similar request to UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, who responded by condemning “any extrajudicial killing or killing.”

The Security Council is scheduled to meet on December 22 to discuss the 2015 nuclear deal between the P5+1 countries and Iran. Reuters does not rule out the possibility that Iran will address the attack on Fakhrizadeh's vehicle at such a meeting.
