Intelligence blow at sea; Claims of killing Behnam Rezaei and Alireza Tangsiri and escalation of security tensions in Iran

The intelligence hit at sea claiming the death of Behnam Rezaei, along with reports of explosions and widespread defense activity in various Iranian cities, indicates an increase in attacks against Iran.

In a new development in regional tensions, the Israeli military has claimed that Behnam Rezaei, head of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps’ naval intelligence department, was killed in an operation. The claim comes amid reports of explosions and increased defensive activity in various parts of Iran.

An Israeli military spokesman announced that in addition to Rezaei, the commander of the IRGC's navy, Alireza Tangsiri, also lost his life in the operation. According to him, Rezaei was a key figure in the field of naval intelligence and played an important role in collecting security data about countries in the region.

Following these claims, the Israeli military stressed that the operation was part of a wider series of attacks that, according to the military, resulted in the killing of dozens of other IRGC commanders. According to a statement released by the Israeli military, these attacks have dealt a serious blow to the IRGC's command and control structure.

The statement also claims that these measures have significantly reduced the IRGC's operational capacity in the maritime domain and affected its military activities in the region.

Inside Iran, as this news was released, field reports indicated increased military and defensive activity in several cities. According to eyewitness accounts and images posted on social media, explosions and defensive gunfire were heard in various parts of the country on the afternoon of Thursday, March 26.

In Tehran, several areas including Naziabad, Fallah, Imamzadeh Hassan, Jomhuri Square, Piroozi, Tarsht, Seyed Khandan, Haftchinar, Baharestan, and Ferdows Shargh Boulevard have witnessed intense defense activity. Some citizens have reported hearing continuous and barrage sounds as well as scattered explosions.

Disruptions in the electricity and mobile phone networks have also been reported in some areas. Especially on Ferdows Shargh Boulevard, power outages and communication disruptions have been noticed by users.

Reports from other cities indicate similar conditions. In Mashhad, from around 18:40 to 18:54, several explosions and defensive activities were reported in areas such as Qasemabad, Vakilabad, Elahiya, and Seyyed Rezi, and even tremors were felt in some places. Some local sources have suggested that sensitive centers in the city may have been targeted.

In Neyshabur, smoke and explosions were observed near the Khayyam and Khur industrial estate. Also, in Bojnourd, the sound of artillery fire was reported for the first time in the evening hours, which had never happened before.

In the northern provinces of the country, including Mazandaran, fighter jets and drones have been reported to have passed by. Witnesses in cities such as Babolsar, Sari, and Fereydounkenar have reported drones flying at low altitudes, and some reports have referred to the use of "witness" drones.

These simultaneous developments in several provinces indicate an increased level of alert and air combat in the country over a short period of time. However, no official in Iran has yet directly confirmed or denied these claims about the killing of IRGC commanders.

A review of international news sources also shows that in recent months, tensions between Iran and Israel have increased, especially in the areas of intelligence and naval warfare, and both sides have repeatedly accused each other of conducting covert and targeted operations. Some analysts believe that such claims, whether confirmed or not, are part of a regional narrative war and psychological pressure.

Overall, these reports indicate a tense day in Iran's security environment; a day that has attracted the attention of many observers with significant military claims from Israel and its coincidence with defensive movements within the country.
