Ali Larijani announced the presentation of the impeachment bill of the Minister of Education to the Board of Directors

Less than a week after the start of the new academic year, Ali Larijani, the Speaker of the Iranian Parliament, says that a bill to impeach the Minister of Education has been submitted to the Presiding Board.

Mr. Larijani said today, September 28, that the impeachment request was submitted to the parliamentary presiding committee last Sunday after the drafters were not convinced, and that the committee should have announced its receipt earlier.

Shortly after Mr. Larijani's statements, Mohammad Ali Vakili, a member of the presiding board of the parliament, told ISNA news agency that the impeachment motion, which was submitted to the presiding board today, will not be announced until at least Sunday.

Signatures for this plan were collected more than a month ago, and a number of representatives announced their decision to impeach the Minister of Education in late August.

Hossein Maghsoudi, a representative from Sabzevar in the parliament, had previously suggested that if the impeachment motion is finalized, Mr. Fani would not be able to retain his position.

If Mr. Fani's impeachment motion is finalized, this will be the first impeachment of a government minister in the 10th term of the parliament, which began its legislative term in early June of this year (about 4 months ago).

The reason for the impeachment of the Minister of Education was previously described as “imposing educational costs on citizens and reducing the quality of education in schools.”

Ali Asghar Fani was impeached by the Ninth Parliament in July of last year, but he again won the vote of confidence of the representatives and continued to work.

According to Gholamreza Tajgerdoon, a reformist member of parliament, the most impeachment during the Iranian parliament is related to the impeachment of the Minister of Education.
