The brother of Ali Younesi, a student detained in Iran, announced that his brother had contracted the coronavirus in Evin Prison.

Reza Younesi, the brother of the detained student, announced on Thursday, June 12, by posting this news on his Twitter account that his brother had called his family on Wednesday, June 11, after at least three weeks of detention, to inform them that he had contracted the coronavirus and was not feeling well as a result of contracting the virus.

According to published information, this detained student was transferred from solitary confinement to a small cell at least four days ago, on June 9, after 59 days of detention, where he is being held with eight other people.

Reza Younesi also announced on Twitter that his parents, along with the family of Amir Hossein Moradi, a physics student who was arrested along with Ali Younesi by plainclothes forces, had visited Evin Prison on Thursday, June 12, after 62 days of detention, to visit their children, but they were not allowed to visit.

Reza Younesi says that the lawyer is still not allowed to enter the case, and the lawyer who approached the prosecutor's office on behalf of the family last week to investigate the status of the case was not allowed access to the case and has left the judicial institution.

Previously, the "Committee of Concerned Scientists," an independent organization consisting of scientists, physicists, engineers, and professors who are concerned about respecting human rights and freedom of knowledge for their colleagues around the world, expressed concern in a letter to Ebrahim Raisi, the head of the Judiciary of the Islamic Republic of Iran, about the conditions of Ali Younesi and Amir Hossein Moradi, who are in the custody of Iranian authorities, and called on the head of the Judiciary of Iran to clarify the reasons for their detention.

This is a humanitarian act, and apart from the fact that these people have been illegally imprisoned, the principle of humanitarianism prevails in these circumstances."
