The price of one kilo of rice in Iran reached more than 23,000 tomans.

Continuing the upward trend in prices in the Iranian market, Iranian media are saying that the price of Iranian rice has doubled compared to last year.

Fars News Agency wrote on Sunday, May 19, that the doubling of rice prices despite the fact that rice reserves have doubled compared to last year is very significant, and the only clue to it can be found in the "hoarding" of these basic items.

The news agency reported that the price of each kilogram of rice in the market has increased by 100% to more than 23,000 tomans, while 6 months ago the price of Iranian rice was about 12,000 tomans in the Tehran market.

The increase in rice prices in the Iranian market comes at a time when, according to an official in the Ministry of Industry, Mines and Trade, even rice imports continue at the state currency of 4,200 Tomans, and "rice production this year will be more than last year."

But some reports indicate that the price of rice in some stores, including Refah Store, is as high as 28,000 Tomans.

Previously, the spokesman for the Agricultural Commission of the Islamic Consultative Assembly had said that given the 100 percent increase in the general price of goods and the increase in production costs, it is obvious that the price of rice will face an upward trend in the market under the influence of these factors.

After the increase in the prices of meat and chicken, the Iranian market has also experienced a price increase in other items, including onions, tomatoes, pasta, and tuna. The price increases have not stopped even with the filing of corruption cases.
