NATO condemns Iran's support for "proxy forces" in its statement

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit issued a statement in Brussels on Monday, June 14, calling on Iran to cease all ballistic missile activities contrary to Resolution 2231 and to refrain from destabilizing actions.

Paragraph 52 of the statement, which is dedicated to Iran, states: “We are committed to ensuring that Iran never produces a nuclear weapon. We welcome substantive discussions among the participants in the JCPOA negotiations and separate negotiations with the United States to reach an agreement for the mutual return of the United States and Iran to compliance with the JCPOA.”

NATO emphasized in another part of its statement: "We support achieving the goal of non-proliferation of nuclear weapons resulting from the JCPOA and ensuring the peaceful nature of Iran's nuclear program. It is crucial to prevent escalation and maintain the atmosphere for negotiations on the part of Iran."

The North Atlantic Treaty Organization leaders said in the statement: "We strongly support the International Atomic Energy Agency in ensuring Iran's compliance with its NPT and other commitments. A strengthened, restored, and fully implemented JCPOA could pave the way for addressing further regional and security concerns, including support for nuclear non-proliferation."

The statement also said: “We condemn Iran’s support for proxy forces and armed non-state actors, including their financing, training, and proliferation of missile and weapons technology. We call on Iran to cease all ballistic missile activity contrary to resolution 2231, refrain from destabilizing actions, and play a constructive role in strengthening regional stability and peace.”

During the NATO summit, which began on Monday, June 14, two important issues are at the center of discussions between the responsible officials. First, the issue of Afghanistan, which needs support for peace and stability in light of the withdrawal of American military forces. And the other important issue is support for Ukraine, especially since relations between Kiev and Moscow are witnessing some tensions regarding Russian military movements on the Ukrainian borders.
