Every 71 minutes, one person dies in road accidents in Iran.

The deputy commander of Iran's police force announced that one person dies in road accidents in the country every 71 minutes.

According to Iranian domestic news agencies, Eskandar Momeni said on Wednesday, April 29, referring to the decrease in the average speed of vehicles, that the number of accidents has decreased in the second wave of travel.

He said that last year, one person was killed on the country's roads every 60 minutes, and this year, this time has increased to 71 minutes, although this time is also shocking.

Iran is one of the countries with the highest number of deaths and injuries in road accidents. Although the traffic police have made efforts to reduce accidents, especially during holidays and peak travel times, and have succeeded in reducing the number of accidents, about 16,000 people still die in car accidents in Iran every year.

Road fatalities during Nowruz this year, despite a slight decrease, have remained significant. Deputy Chief of Traffic Police Musa Amiri announced on April 2 that on March 19 and April 21, 2017 alone, road accidents left 145 dead and about 2,950 injured.

The two days were the busiest for Nowruz travel.
