Republicans warn Biden: Lifting Iran sanctions is a mistake

A number of Republican representatives have sent a letter to the new US administration warning of the consequences of lifting sanctions on Iran. The letter states that lifting sanctions will weaken the US position in nuclear negotiations with Iran.

American media have reported a new effort by a number of Republican congressional representatives to prevent the lifting of sanctions on Iran by the Joe Biden administration.

The Hill newspaper has cited a letter sent to the Biden administration by New York Republican Representative John Katko, which is said to have been signed by a number of Republican representatives. The letter mentions the consequences of the US government lifting sanctions on Iran.

The US's announcement of its readiness to participate in the P5+1 summit proposed by EU foreign policy coordinator Josep Borrell has increased efforts by opponents of the sanctions lifting policy in that country.

In his letter, John Katko noted that implementing Iran's demand for sanctions relief could harm the United States' position in bilateral negotiations with that country.

John Katko has called for the new US administration to continue its policy of maximum pressure on Iran. On the other hand, some other Republican representatives have made a similar request to the Biden administration.

For example, Republican Congresswoman Liz Cheney defended Donald Trump's maximum pressure policy in her digital speech at the Reagan Institute.

Liz Cheney has called the Obama administration's 2015 nuclear deal with Iran the "worst" deal the United States has ever signed.

He considered the US withdrawal from the nuclear agreement to be the right solution and said: "Any attempt by the Biden administration to return to this agreement would be a mistake."

Liz Cheney has said that such an action by the Biden administration could send the wrong message to the Iranian government that their policy of applying nuclear pressure has been effective.
