Amnesty International's response to the order to ban the purchase of vaccines by the Leader of the Islamic Republic: Khamenei has put the lives of millions at stake

Amnesty International condemned the order of Ayatollah Khamenei, the leader of the Islamic Republic of Iran, to ban the purchase of Covid-19 vaccines from the UK and the US, depriving the Iranian people of these vaccines.

In a statement released on Twitter on Thursday, January 9, Amnesty International said that these vaccines save lives and that banning them is a step in the "human rights abuses" that Iranian regime officials have been carrying out for "decades."

Amnesty International has noted that Iran's leader has "put the lives of millions at stake and put politics before people," while no one should be denied access to health services, including vaccines.

According to the international organization, the coronavirus outbreak in Iran has claimed the lives of more than 55,000 people and Iranian authorities must "stop their brazen disregard for their international human rights obligations."

The Leader of the Islamic Republic announced in a televised speech on Friday, January 9, that there was “no trust or confidence” in vaccines made in the UK and the US and banned their entry. His remarks were met with a wave of protest and dismay on social media, and Twitter removed the English translation of his remarks, which was posted on his account, due to “misleading” claims.
