Coronavirus in Iran; British mutant virus leads in Qazvin

The head of public relations for the Ministry of Health says that 17 people in Iran have been infected with the mutated virus, 7 of whom are in Qazvin. The ministry's spokesperson also reported that 89 people have died in the past 24 hours and considered the risk of a fourth wave of coronavirus to be serious.

Kianoush Jahanpour, head of the Information and Public Relations Center of the Iranian Ministry of Health, says that 17 people have been definitely infected with the mutated coronavirus, 7 of whom are in Qazvin province. He announced that accordingly, special regulations will be implemented in Qazvin to identify and control the disease.

Sima Sadat Lari, spokesperson for the Ministry of Health, also called on people to avoid unnecessary travel to prevent the fourth wave of the coronavirus, especially the spread of the British mutant virus.

Lari also expressed concern about the upward trend of the disease among young people in recent weeks, saying: "The increase in the disease in younger age groups is a warning of an increase in the disease among the elderly."

He called the number of infections and hospitalizations in Khuzestan "very worrying" and reported a slight upward trend in daily hospitalizations in Ilam, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad, Bushehr, Isfahan, Fars, and Semnan.

A day earlier, Iranian Health Minister Saeed Namaki had warned of a “tough March” ahead, saying: “I don’t believe that there are only a few cases of the mutated virus in Qazvin. Joint meetings must be held between Zanjan, Qazvin, Alborz, and Tehran provinces, and the entire region must be under continuous surveillance, and the first spike in the disease from wherever it is found must be immediately extinguished.”

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Health announced in the latest statistics that the number of deaths from Corona in the past 24 hours was 89. Thus, the official death toll from Covid-19 in Iran reached 59,117.

According to the Ministry of Health, 9 Iranian cities are in red status, including Abadan, Ahvaz, Bandar Mahshahr, Dezful, Dasht-e Azadegan, Shadegan, Shushtar, Karun, and Hoveyzeh. 39 cities are in orange status, 228 cities are in yellow status, and 172 cities are in blue status.
