Discovery of a land grab measuring "85,000 meters" in Vanak lands in Tehran

On Monday, the Iranian Ministry of Intelligence published a report announcing the discovery of a large land grab in Tehran's Vanak area.

The report says this incident is one of the largest land grabbing cases in the country.

According to this report, the aforementioned land, with an area of approximately 85,000 square meters, located in the West Tehran Township area and encompassing part of Iran Zamin Park and Hemmat Highway, is estimated to have an approximate value of more than 50 trillion rials.

The Ministry of Intelligence says that some officials are also being prosecuted in this case.

Over the past few years, Iranian authorities have reported the arrest of dozens of people on charges of land grabbing.

Fars News Agency reported on Sunday this week that "about 385,000 hectares of land grabbing were recorded in Iran in 2016."

The report adds: "These are only the ones that were discovered, there are also cases that the judiciary has not been able to identify. Its value in rials in 2016, including inflation that year, is 97 trillion tomans. This figure was a quarter of the country's budget in 2016 and is currently equivalent to the salaries of five million workers in one year."
