A Kurdish political prisoner was sentenced to 6 years in prison.

The 11-year prison sentence of a citizen of Marivan city named "Tahsin Dadras" was reduced to 6 years in prison by the Court of Appeal.

According to the Kurdistan Center for Democracy and Human Rights, the eleven-year prison sentence of this Kurdish political activist, which was previously issued by the Marivan Revolutionary Court on charges of "collaborating with a Kurdish party opposed to the regime," was reduced to six years in prison on Tuesday, February 29, by a ruling issued by the Kurdistan Provincial Court of Appeal.

It is not clear to VOA which Kurdish party opposed to the Islamic Republic of Iran this political activist has collaborated with.

According to published information, Tahsin Dadras was arrested by security forces on Saturday, December 27, 2017, and then temporarily released on August 28, 2018, after posting a bail of 500 million Tomans until the end of the trial.

According to the Kurdistan Center for Democracy and Human Rights, this Kurdish citizen was arrested again just two months after his release and has been detained in Marivan Prison since then.

This is not the first time that a Kurdish citizen has been given severe sentences, such as long prison terms or the death penalty, for charges such as membership in or collaboration with a Kurdish opposition party.

Voice of America had previously reported that Branch Two of the Urmia Islamic Revolutionary Court had sentenced a Kurdish political prisoner named Muhieddin Ebrahimi to death for the second time on charges of "rebellion" through membership in a Kurdish opposition party.

The US State Department has repeatedly and on various occasions condemned the violent confrontations and widespread repression of protesters, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens, including ethnic and religious minorities, by the ruling regime in that country.
