"Alem Al-Huda" insists on executing Iranian boxing champion behind the scenes of Mashhad Revolutionary Court

Ahmad Alam-ul-Hohadi, Khamenei's representative in Khorasan Razavi, is insisting on the execution of the Iranian boxing champion behind the scenes of the Mashhad Revolutionary Court.

Mohammad Javad Vafaei-Sani, a 27-year-old boxer from Mashhad, is one of the detainees of the November 2019 uprising. He was arrested in February 2019 and charged with "corruption on earth" through "arson and deliberate destruction of specific places, including the office of Ahmad Alam-Huda and the government prison building." However, this political prisoner has denied the relevant charges.

His other charges include participating in the November 2019 protests, protesting the downing of a Ukrainian plane, and propaganda against the regime.

Mohammad Javad's defense lawyer, Babak Paknia, wrote in a tweet: "The verdict of the second branch of the Islamic Revolutionary Court of Mashhad regarding Mohammad Javad Vafaei-Sani was communicated to the lawyers on Monday, August 2, and this branch, despite the arguments of the Supreme Court branch, again insisted on issuing the death sentence." He also emphasized that we will re-register the appeal bill within the legal deadline.

Regarding the re-issuance of the aforementioned sentence, 85 human rights defenders and international non-governmental organizations, including former UN officials and Nobel Prize winners, have expressed concern about the possibility of Mohammad Javad's death sentence being carried out and in late July of this year, they called on the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to prevent the execution of this Iranian boxing champion.
