Behnam Mosivand was transferred to the general ward of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

Behnam Musivand, a imprisoned civil activist, was transferred to Hall 10 of Ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj today, Wednesday, September 16, after 10 days of being held in one of the solitary cells of the secure ward of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, after a new coronavirus test was declared negative and he had fully recovered.

According to HRANA News Agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, this afternoon, Wednesday, September 16, 2020, Behnam Mosivand, a imprisoned civil activist, was transferred from the secure ward to Ward 4 of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj.

Mr. Musivand was transferred to Hall 10, Section 4 of this prison after his new coronavirus test was declared negative and he made a full recovery.

Behnam Mosivand was previously transferred to the Evin Prison Health Department on September 29, 2020, while serving his sentence in Evin Prison, due to symptoms of COVID-19, including severe fever and chills and loss of sense of smell and taste. Mr. Mosivand began a hunger strike on September 10, following his transfer from Evin Prison to solitary confinement in the secure ward of Rajai Shahr Prison in Karaj, and ended his hunger strike on September 5, when he was transferred to ward 10 of the prison. This imprisoned civil activist was transferred to solitary confinement again on September 7, under the pretext of testing positive for COVID-19.

Behnam Mosivand was sentenced in September 2019 by Branch 28 of the Tehran Revolutionary Court, presided over by Judge Mohammad Moghiseh, to 5 years in prison for the charge of “gathering and colluding with the intention of acting against the security of the country” and to 1 year in prison for the charge of “propaganda activity against the system.” This sentence was confirmed in its entirety by Branch 36 of the Tehran Provincial Court of Appeals. Based on Article 134 of the Islamic Penal Code, the most severe punishment, namely 5 years in prison, is applicable to him for the charge of “gathering and colluding with the intention of acting against the security of the country.” Mr. Mosivand was finally arrested on June 15 after appearing at the Evin Courthouse’s Sentence Execution Unit and transferred to prison to serve his sentence.

Behnam Musivand has a history of arrest and conviction.
