Statement by more than three hundred Christian citizens condemning the repression of protesting people

HRANA News Agency – More than three hundred Christian citizens in Iran issued a statement expressing solidarity with the nationwide protests, condemning the Islamic Republic’s repression of the protesting people. In part of their statement, they wrote, “Inside and outside Iran, in cyberspace and in real life, we are still together and will continue to be.”

According to HRANA, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, 309 Christian citizens in Iran issued a statement expressing their solidarity with the nationwide protests.

Part of this statement, while recalling the Islamic Republic's violent actions against Christian citizens over the past four decades, states: "We stand together, we remain together, and we are not afraid. Just as we consider ourselves part of the body of society, not separate from it, as in the past, we continue to stand together in nationwide and legitimate protests inside and outside Iran, in cyberspace and in real life. We continue. And we share the cost of the struggle to free Iran from captivity and darkness."

The full text of this statement follows exactly:

"We are deeply saddened and angry by the brutal murder of Mahsa Amini. Just as our hearts were crushed and bleeding with pain from the murder of countless freedom-loving men and women before that. But we do not consider being sad enough, and instead of the cliché of "verbal consolation," we consider "practical action" against this bloodbath and 43-year-old infection necessary and essential."

For days now, the brave and fighting people of Iran have taken to the streets across Iran to protest against oppression, tyranny, and dictatorship. Men and women, young and old, from different ethnicities and religions, are shouting in unison for freedom, equality, and justice. A loud cry that comes from throats full of suffering and pain that have been stifled by oppression and suffocation for more than forty years.

Despite the regime's use of guns and tear gas against the people and its tightening of the internet, these days, we are witnessing more and more courage, dedication, and unity among the people for the purpose of a complete revolution; a revolution against oppression and a form of oppression that seeks not only to destroy women but also to destroy humanity and humanity itself.

We Christians have not been immune from the brutal repression of the Islamic Republic since the first day it set foot in our country. We have endured everything from serial killings to imprisonment, torture, humiliation, ostracism, flogging, exile, forced veiling, deprivation of privacy even in our own homes, deprivation of work and education, confiscation of property, and destruction of our churches, which are just part of the regime's desperate attempt to break us, but we have not backed down. For our messianic beliefs and belief in freedom and choice of thought and thought, by saying a firm "no" to "forced religion," we have proudly accepted the punishment for our years of resistance, ourselves and our families.

We all sympathize. Our pain is from the wounds inflicted by the sharp claws of oppression on our bodies; a body that these days is crying out louder but bloodthirsty for freedom with all its might. So we stand together, we remain together, and we are not afraid. Just as we consider ourselves part of the body of society, and not separate from it, we continue to stand together in the nationwide and rightful protests of the people inside and outside Iran, in cyberspace and in real space. We continue. And we share in the cost of the struggle to free Iran from captivity and darkness.”

In this statement, Christians, while condemning the repression of the people, express their solidarity and practical participation with the nationwide popular protests in Iran.

The KAHMA campaign (the acronym for Church is the Right of Christians) began its activities in 2018 through the efforts of a group of Christians and civil activists inside Iran. The main theme and content of this campaign is the need to stop violence against Christians, and it advances this by raising one of the major problems of Christians (namely, the lack of a church and security, which according to the "pyramid of needs" are basic human needs).

The Shahrivar protests of 1401 (Shahrivar 1402) refer to a series of nationwide protests that began on September 16, following the death of a 22-year-old girl named Mahsa (Zina) Amini as a result of the actions of the Moral Security Police patrol in Tehran, and are still ongoing.
