US reiterates readiness for dialogue with Iran

The United States responded to the Islamic Republic's negative response to talks with the country within the framework of a proposed European Union summit. A spokesperson for the US State Department stressed that Washington still wants diplomatic negotiations on the nuclear deal.
Ned Price, spokesman for the US State Department, once again spoke of the country's readiness to talk with Iran over the nuclear dispute.
He called the diplomatic exchange between the two countries on the commitments foreseen in the nuclear agreement very important and said that within the framework of such negotiations, "it will be possible for both countries to return to the obligations contained in the text of the 2015 nuclear agreement."
Ned Price emphasized that it is important to hold these negotiations and that the United States does not insist on how or in what form they will be held.
The US State Department spokesperson also clarified that Washington follows a fundamental principle in negotiations with Tehran, which is that Iran "must not succeed in equipping itself with nuclear weapons."
The negative response of the Islamic Republic's Ministry of Foreign Affairs to the proposal of Josep Borrell, the European Union's foreign policy coordinator, to convene a summit of countries involved in the nuclear deal caused discontent among the United States and European countries.
The United States has called Iran's approach to participating in such a summit "disappointing." On the other hand, the German Foreign Ministry has also emphasized that, together with the United Kingdom and France, it will do its utmost to facilitate a summit on the nuclear dispute with the Islamic Republic.
In response to Josep Borrell's proposal, Iran once again emphasized its demand for the lifting of sanctions by the United States, while the United States has made the lifting of sanctions conditional on Iran's adherence to its commitments under the JCPOA.
