Pope Francis' visit to Türkiye to commemorate the first council in the history of the Church

Pope Francis will travel to Türkiye to commemorate the convening of the first council in the history of the Church.

Pope Francis, the leader of the Catholic world, announced his visit to Turkey in his speech yesterday (Sunday, June 30). He stated that he will travel to Turkey to celebrate the anniversary of the first council of the Christian church. Pope Francis emphasized the visit and said: "This is a trip that I wish to make with all my heart."

Christianity was embroiled in many debates in the early centuries about how Jesus Christ could be both God and man, and the church decided on this issue at the First Council of Nicaea in 325. This council was the world's first church council, convened in 325 AD in response to the views of Arius, a cleric from Alexandria. This council is now known as the Council of Ezekiel.

Pope Francis is also planning a trip to Asia and the Pacific in September. It will be his longest in 11 years. The pope will stop in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, Timor-Leste and Singapore, and at the end of September he will travel to Brussels and Luxembourg for four days.
