Prince Reza Pahlavi delivered a speech in the Italian Parliament regarding Iran

Prince Reza Pahlavi spoke yesterday about Iranian issues in the Italian Parliament.
Yesterday, April 26, 2023, in the Italian Parliament, Prince Pahlavi expressed his happiness over his trip to Rome, thanked the invitees for this meeting, and delivered a speech on the most important components specific to the situation in Iran.
In his speech, he said: "I have been doing this activity for 44 years, and from the very beginning, along with many secular democrats, we were against a religious dictatorship. We wanted to be the voice of our compatriots inside the country."
"The important thing is to find a solution to a problem that these same people themselves are the ones who created the problems. Fortunately, when the issue of Iran is raised today, the global audience knows that the ruling regime does not represent the Iranian people, and this is very important for moral support and morale for the Iranian people, because when they see the issue of Iran come up, global decision-makers and politicians look not only at the regime in Tehran but also at the Iranian people."
From the perspective of Prince Pahlavi, the murder of Mahsa Amini created a historic moment when Iran was thrust into the global spotlight. According to him, it was a “San Diego” moment for Iran, when the world woke up and witnessed a real revolution in Iran. The point is, for change to happen in Iran, the citizens must come first, and this brings us to exactly where we are talking about Iran now.
Another point is how we can provide more support to the Iranian people. I think not only in Italy but in the whole European Union in general, there is a direct connection to the philosophy of the revolution: "Women, Life, Freedom."
From a human rights perspective, the most important component is that we need to address the gender discrimination law in Iran and legislate against it. A law that discriminates against Iranian women, and in this regard, we don't just want to emphasize women, but we also need to pay attention to the LGBT community.
According to the prince, the sanctions imposed on the Iranian regime so far only relate to the issue of terrorism and the nuclear program, but the sanctions can be made more severe and broader in relation to the behavior of the Islamic Republic regarding the values that have been discussed. Because sanctions can at some point weaken a regime and its means of repression because they reduce their financial resources, which is necessary but not sufficient. There must also be components of direct support for Iranian citizens.
European officials should enact laws that restrict regime officials and ground their diplomats, which would be a morale booster for the Iranian people.
Prince Pahlavi considered it his duty to oversee a peaceful change in Iran, and naturally, after the regime change, so that the Iranian people could decide about their future, and naturally, there would also be a transitional period in which an interim government would come to power.
The assembly where the founders will write the constitution and then decide on how to govern the country, the degree or amount of centralization or decentralization. He also announced that decisions will be made for Iran in a democratic spirit and I will do my best to play this role in the best way and I think that in order for it to be played in the best way, I must remain neutral and non-partisan. Of course, this neutrality allows me to be trusted by young people who may or may not be monarchists. Because they know that I want to move towards the most transparent change in the country and the most transparent transition stage.
