During 2019, more than four thousand reports of child abuse were recorded in Yazd.

The Director General of Welfare of Yazd Province announced that 4,098 cases of child abuse were registered in the province last year. According to the World Health Organization, any physical, emotional, sexual abuse, neglect, or negligent or exploitative behavior that results in actual or potential harm to the health, survival, development, or dignity of a child in the context of relationships or responsibilities, trust, or power is considered child abuse.
According to HRANA news agency, quoting IRNA, Ali Mohammad Atabakhsh, Director General of Welfare of Yazd Province, said: 4098 cases of child abuse were registered in this province during 2019.
He stated in this regard: "Most of the calls from the people of the province to the social emergency are about child abuse."
Ali Mohammad Atabakhsh added: "Last year, there were seven thousand calls to the social emergency service, of which 4,098 were related to child abuse."
He noted that child abuse is most often committed by parents who are addicted.
