Milad Nazeri and Shabir Hosseini-Nik were sentenced to a total of 72 lashes.

Student activists Milad Nazeri and Seyyed Shabir Hosseini-Nik were sentenced to a total of 72 lashes by Criminal Court 2 in Shahrood City. According to Mohammad Ali Kamfirozi, the lawyer for the two student activists, this sentence was finalized in recent days despite the fact that “after about 3 years, the legal charges have not been explained and there is no information available about the instances of falsehoods considered by the court.”
According to the HRANA news agency, the news agency of the Human Rights Activists in Iran, Milad Nazeri and Seyyed Shabir Hosseini-Nik, student activists, were sentenced to flogging by Criminal Court 2 of Shahroud city.
According to this verdict, issued on January 19, 2020, by Branch 101 of Criminal Court 2 of Shahrood City, these two student activists were sentenced to 36 lashes each for the charge of "participating in spreading lies with the intention of disturbing public opinion through the channel of the Islamic Association of Shahrood University of Technology."
Mohammad Ali Kamfirozi, the lawyer for the two student activists, announced the finality of this verdict in the past few days by publishing a note on his personal page, saying: “After 2-3 years, my clients have not been informed of the legal charges, and we are unaware of the instances of falsehoods that the court is considering, and this court does not have the authority to hear the crime of publishing falsehoods (which, according to Article 2 of the Political Crimes Law, is under the jurisdiction of the Criminal Court 1 and with the presence of a jury). Also, the judge of the court did not have the authority to hear and issue a verdict due to his previous substantive opinion about this case. It is regrettable that despite all the objections and defenses raised by us, such an illegal and severe verdict is being issued to two 25-year-old youths under the pretext of publishing a few articles on a student channel, and our follow-ups and protests have not yielded any results, and this illegal verdict is becoming final. I think that such baseless cases against student activists by the IRGC intelligence and illegal actions by some judges are a good indication of the current state of the security and judicial authorities.”
According to the lawyer, this sentence was issued due to the publication of several critical articles on a student Telegram channel, while the punishment of flogging is not among the penalties for the crime of publishing computer lies.
Milad Nazeri, 25, and Seyed Shabir Hosseini Nik, 26, are both students at Shahrood University of Technology.
