IRGC Navy unveils new missile city

The IRGC Navy unveiled a new missile city with cruise and ballistic missiles and a large number of systems on the occasion of IRGC Day. This is the sixth addition of “combat equipment” to the IRGC Navy this year.

According to Sepah News, the equipment in this city was produced by the Ministry of Defense, knowledge-based companies, and the Self-Sufficiency Jihad.

The Fars News Agency reports on the unveiling ceremony of a new IRGC missile city. The ceremony, which was held on Saturday morning, March 15, was attended by the Commander-in-Chief of the IRGC, the Commander of the IRGC Navy, and a number of commanders and senior officials of the armed forces.

Fars quoted “Sepah News” as saying that a large number of cruise and ballistic missile systems and missiles with various ranges were displayed in the city. The news agency said that new operational capabilities and features such as “precise firing from depth and passive defense sites, mine throwing at different ranges, 360% firing, firing on the move, the ability to counter electronic warfare, and increased range and destruction capacity” have been added to the IRGC Navy’s combat organization.

This is the sixth addition of combat equipment to the IRGC's naval forces in 2020. According to Fars, missile systems with the ability to change targets after firing were also unveiled at this ceremony.

The Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Support, knowledge-based companies, the IRGC's research departments, and the IRGC's Navy Self-Sufficiency Jihad, as well as the organizations and factors that design and manufacture this equipment, have been introduced.

In the three-minute film released since the opening of the city, titled "The Green-Clad IRGC Navy's Show of Power," numerous equipment and systems are seen in tunnels and open spaces with posters of Qassem Soleimani, Mohsen Fakhrizadeh, and other technical and operational forces of the IRGC.

"What you are seeing is a small part of the great missile power of the IRGC Navy, and we are facing huge growth in combat capabilities in the maritime arena," said IRGC Commander Hossein Salami at the ceremony.

Alireza Tangsiri, commander of the IRGC's Navy, announced eight months ago that the IRGC had created "floating missile-launching cities" on Iran's southern coast and would display them when necessary.

The IRGC’s new naval equipment has been on display as tensions between Iran and Israel in the region have escalated. The Wall Street Journal reported a few days ago, citing US and regional officials, that Israel has attacked at least 12 Iranian or Iranian-owned oil tankers since late 2019. Israel has also accused the Islamic Republic of being behind the attack on the MV Helios Ray cargo ship in the Gulf of Oman. The attack damaged the Israeli ship’s hull in two places, but its 28 crew members were not injured.

In the most recent case, the Iranian ship “Shahr-e-Kurd” was attacked in the Mediterranean. The Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman said that evidence points to Israeli involvement in the attack.
