The Iranian Writers' Association called for the release of Milad Jannat, a translator and poet detained in Iran.

The Iranian Writers' Association issued a statement calling for the immediate release of Mila Janat, a translator, poet, and member of the Iranian Writers' Association, who was transferred to an unknown location after being arrested last week.
The Iranian Writers' Association issued this statement on Thursday, August 2, while referring to the increasing "suppression of protestors" in Iran, and announced that Milad Janat has been arrested and transferred to an unknown location as a result of these repressions, and "the Iranian Writers' Association has no information at this time about the arresting agency or his place of detention."
The Iranian Writers' Association has condemned the arrest of Mr. Jannat and called for the unconditional release of this member of the association and all political and ideological prisoners.
The statement, referring to the spread of the coronavirus in Iran and the long history of violating the rights of detainees by security and judicial agencies, states that in such circumstances, "the government has seized the opportunity and, with complete disregard for the lives of the people, has suppressed and arrested more protesters and demonstrated its authority."
The Iranian Writers' Association also expressed concern about the health and life of prisoners, including Milad Jannat, and warned that in the current circumstances, the responsibility for his life lies with the government and the detaining institution.
Milad Janat, a translator, poet, and member of the Iranian Writers' Association, was arrested by a group of security officers at his home on Tuesday, July 14, and after a thorough search of his home and the confiscation of many of his personal belongings, he was taken to an unknown location by security forces.
The Iranian Writers' Association stated in the statement that the association is an independent institution "that throughout its fifty-year existence has always clamped down on freedom of thought and expression without any restrictions or exceptions, and in return, has faced threats, imprisonment, and even the murder of some of its members by those in power."
Security clashes with writers and poets in Iran continue, while on June 5 of this year, Mostafa Badkoubaei, an Iranian poet and literary critic who had previously been sentenced to one year in prison by the Revolutionary Court, was arrested and transferred to prison after being taken to Evin Prosecutor's Office.
The US State Department has repeatedly condemned the Islamic Republic regime's violent actions against the Iranian people under various pretexts, including attacks on the freedom to choose the type of clothing, as well as the repeated and persistent violations of the rights of Iranian citizens by agents of the regime.
