Coronavirus in Iran: More than 4,000 infected and 239 deaths in 24 hours

The spokesman for the Iranian Ministry of Health announced on Wednesday that over the past 24 hours, the number of deaths from coronavirus in Iran has continued to exceed 200 and the number of infections has exceeded 4,000.
According to a report on Wednesday, October 6, on the IRNA news agency, Sima Lari announced that during this period, 239 people died from coronavirus in Iran and 4019 new patients were identified.
Including these people, the official number of victims and infected with the coronavirus in the country has reached 27,658 and 483,844, respectively, as of noon today.
Of the new cases, 1,820 have been hospitalized in medical centers across the country, and 4,274 are in critical condition.
Despite serious doubts from independent sources about the accuracy of government statistics, Ministry of Health officials continue to provide daily reports on the number of coronavirus cases and deaths in Iran, but they refuse to provide disaggregated statistics.
Independent sources believe that the coronavirus statistics in Iran, especially in terms of deaths, are several times higher than government statistics.
Masoud Mardani, a member of the coronavirus response headquarters in Tehran province, also said on Wednesday: "The transmission of the virus has increased between 3 and 9 times, and if people travel and get infected, we will no longer have empty beds to treat them."
In an interview with ISNA, Mr. Mardani added that the current level of transmission of the virus is such that "usually, single patients no longer come to see us, and we have 3 or 4 infected people in one family."
According to him, 105 hospitals in Tehran are dealing with patients infected with the coronavirus, and the situation of the spread of the virus in this province is "beyond red."
Mr. Mardani said bluntly: "The current situation of hospitalizations in hospitals is not favorable and there is no longer any possibility of admission."
Alireza Zali, commander of the coronavirus response headquarters in Tehran province, also said that over the past 10 days, "there have been no signs of improvement in indicators related to hospitalization, outpatient visits, and mortality in Tehran."
He added that given the higher number of hospitalized cases than hospital discharges, "newer measures" should be considered.
Iranian President Hassan Rouhani also called on all people and officials in the country to observe health protocols without any "exceptions."
He urged people to "be prepared, we don't want people to be strict, but in the current situation we have no choice but to increase the strictness and restrictions."
Currently, the provinces of Tehran, Isfahan, Qom, East Azerbaijan, South Khorasan, Semnan, Qazvin, Lorestan, Ardabil, Khuzestan, Kermanshah, Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, Gilan, Bushehr, Zanjan, Ilam, Khorasan Razavi, Mazandaran, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari, Alborz, West Azerbaijan, Markazi, Kerman, North Khorasan, Hamedan, and Yazd are in red status.
