At least 16 killed in Canada's deadliest mass shooting in 30 years

At least 16 people have been killed in a shooting rampage in Nova Scotia by a gunman dressed in a police uniform, the deadliest mass shooting in Canada since 1989.

Police say they have stopped the attacker's attacks, but have not confirmed reports that he was shot and killed by a Canadian mounted police officer.

It was previously reported that he was arrested at a gas station outside Halifax.

The RCMP says the man, identified as Gabriel Wortman, a dentist, was 51 years old, dressed in a police uniform and even had his car painted in the shape of a police car.

Wertman has been shooting at citizens in several parts of the province.

According to reports, a number of bodies were found inside and outside a house in the small town of Portapique, 100 kilometers from Halifax.

A police officer named Heidi Stevenson, who had 23 years of service, was also among the dead.

The Royal Canadian Mounted Police say they have found no connection between the attacker and at least a number of the victims, and they still do not know the reason or motive for this deadly attack, unprecedented in the past 30 years.

In the province of Nova Scotia, like other regions of Canada, traffic rules and restrictions are in place due to the spread of the coronavirus.

Nova Scotia is located on the southeastern coast of Canada, with the city of Halifax as its capital. The entire province covers an area of about 55,000 square kilometers and has a population of less than one million people.
