Noor Pahlavi: “We Are Not Fighting for a Throne; We Are Striving for the Freedom of the Iranian People”

Princess Noor Pahlavi at the Oslo Freedom Forum, one of the most important international gatherings of human rights defenders, emphasized the right of the Iranian people to determine their own fate, stating that the Pahlavi family is not seeking a return to power, but rather supports a transition to a system based on the free vote of citizens. Her remarks came as the issue of Iran and the country’s political future was one of the focal points of attention for participants at this global conference.

Noor Pahlavi, who was present as an official speaker at the 2026 Oslo Freedom Forum in the Norwegian capital, said in part of her remarks: “My father’s goal and our goal as a family is clear: a transition to free and fair elections in which Iranians determine their own future. We are not fighting for a throne; we are fighting for the freedom of a people who have been deprived of it for 47 years.”

The Oslo Freedom Forum, organized by the Human Rights Foundation, has served since 2009 as a gathering place for civil activists, journalists, opponents of authoritarian governments, and human rights defenders from around the world. The organizers of this event have introduced Noor Pahlavi as an “Iranian human rights activist” and among recognized figures in raising public awareness and informing policymakers about the human rights situation in Iran.

Her presence in Oslo was accompanied by a reception from a group of Iranians residing in Norway and other European countries. A number of supporters of the Pahlavi family were present at the event venue and her hotel residence, welcoming her by chanting slogans and singing the Iranian national anthem. Norwegian media have described this presence as an indication of the symbolic position of the Pahlavi family among a segment of the Iranian diaspora.

Noor Pahlavi also thanked “Erik Låe Solberg,” the mayor of the city, during her visit to Oslo for hosting programs related to the Oslo Freedom Forum. In a message on social media, she emphasized the importance of international dialogue on freedom and human rights.

Her speech took place at a time when the issue of Iran was one of the prominent topics of this year’s conference, and a number of Iranian activists and campaigners also participated in various programs of the forum. The Oslo Freedom Forum this year, like previous years, was host to activists from different countries who discussed ways to counter political repression, defend freedom of expression, and strengthen pro-democracy movements.

In another part of the program, Noor Pahlavi, referring to widespread protests in Iran last year, remembered the courage of the protesters and families of victims and called for continued support from the international community for the demands of the Iranian people. She emphasized that Iran’s future should be determined through the free choice of citizens and not through political imposition by any faction or power.
