Formation of Special Police Force for Children and Adolescents

The Iranian Parliament announced a bill to establish a “Special Police Force for Children and Adolescents.”

Following the execution of several young people during protests and the issuance of execution sentences for numerous other youths and adolescents, some of whom are under 17 years old, now comes the turn to establish a special police force for children and adolescents.

According to Iran International news agency, Hossein Ali Haji Deligani, a member of the Judicial Commission of the Parliament, said: “Representatives approved a bill for the establishment of a special police force for children and adolescents, which will be formed under the direct supervision of the National Police Commander.”

To date, the Islamic Republic’s security forces have targeted many children and adolescents below a certain age with bullets, resulting in deaths or serious injuries. The duty of the children’s police is that if a child, boy, or teenager commits a crime or offense, before entering the criminal justice system, they must be handled by police so that an appropriate response is made according to their personality. If this is not done properly with these children and adolescents, it will have irreversible consequences for them in the future. Now the establishment of a “Special Police Force for Children and Adolescents” has been approved at a time when the performance of police in Iran is inconsistent with such a duty.

Is there a need to establish a children’s and adolescent police force in Iran when police have shown no regard for the lives of children, adolescents, and the elderly, subjecting them to gunfire and baton strikes?
