Abulfazl Qadiani, Political Activist, Arrested

Abulfazl Qadiani, an Iranian political activist, has been arrested.

Morteza Qadiani, his son, wrote on his Twitter page that the arrest warrant for Qadiani was issued by “Branch One of Evin Prison’s Enforcement of Sentences.”

According to Qadiani, during the arrest there was “very insulting treatment by one of the enforcement officers.”

Abulfazl Qadiani, a close associate of Mir Hossein Mousavi, was sentenced last year to three years of discretionary imprisonment and also to rewriting three books published about Ayatollah Khamenei, the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic.

This year, a new case was also opened for him by security institutions in Branch Two of Evin’s investigation section.

Qadiani recently, following the killing of Ali Reza Shirmohammadali in prison, had stated: “As long as Khamenei remains in the position of absolute ruler, and as long as the institution of Velayat-e Faqih is established as the institution that sustains despotism, unfortunately such tragedies will continue to occur, because establishing the rule of law is the same as dismantling the apparatus of terror and fear.”
