Trump Asked Lavrov to Curb Syria and Iran

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, asked Russia’s Foreign Minister to curb the Syrian government and its ally Iran during their meeting. Lavrov traveled to America for the first time since Trump took office.

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, traveled to America for the first time during Trump’s presidency. He met with Trump at the White House on Wednesday, May 10 (Ordibehesht 20).

During this meeting, Donald Trump asked Russia to curb Bashar al-Assad’s government and its ally Iran. According to the White House, the American President stressed the necessity of cooperation between the two countries to resolve the Syrian crisis and emphasized that Russia should “curb Bashar al-Assad’s regime, its ally Iran, and Iranian representatives.”

Sergey Lavrov had not traveled to America for nearly four years. The main purpose of his visit is to secure American support for Russia’s plan to establish a safe zone in Syria.
