Some Lacked Electoral Competition Capacity

ILNA: The head of the Expediency Discernment Council, referring to the remarks of the Supreme Leader in a recent meeting with representatives of the Assembly of Experts, said: “The enemies of Islam have plans to fan the flames of Shiite-Sunni differences, and evidence shows that religious war may be one of the important dangers in the future.” Ayatollah Hashemi Rafsanjani, in a meeting with Ali Akbar Velayati, deputies and managers of the Strategic Research Center, considered the solidarity and cooperation of all sectors of society as one of the main necessities of today’s conditions in the country, and said: “Given the set of issues occurring in the region, the best way to overcome problems and achieve success is to strengthen factors of unity and avoid controversial positions.” The head of the Expediency Discernment Council, also regarding domestic issues, by explaining the events of recent months, especially the early days of the new year, said: “It appears that some have set aside the system’s interests, and their main goal is to convey incapacity, while people’s despair with the system in society is not good.” He considered the results of the seventh-month elections as a reflection of society’s underlying thoughts and said: “Unfortunately, some who lacked the capacity for electoral competition resorted to insulting the nation, which ultimately harms the system.” Hashemi Rafsanjani described logical expression of views and fair criticism as constructive for advancing the goals of the Islamic Revolution and accelerating the country’s movement toward development and progress, and added: “What is not good and is harmful to everyone is political threats, anti-moral sabotages and social insults.” Stating that the wise of the community should sit down and talk so that the country does not face vindictive differences, he said: “At the global level, we should also not allow the world to doubt Iran’s internal solidarity and sincerity in its principled positions.” Hashemi Rafsanjani, emphasizing Iran’s rich resources, said: “We have promising areas like the Persian Gulf that, due to the sharing of underground resources with neighbors, we witness daily that others are taking or burning the capital of today’s and future generations of the country, while from every flame that burns, one can produce dozens of petrochemical materials and even generate electricity, which is among the necessary needs of the world.” The head of the Expediency Discernment Council, by citing examples of foreigners’ great enthusiasm for presence and investment in Iran, said: “Many foreign investors and companies are ready and waiting for Iran’s permission to carry out major work related to massive projects that can complement the efforts of Iranian companies for the full extraction of resources.”
