Police Ignored Threat, Young Man Commits Suicide

Harana News Agency – A young man in Tehran committed suicide with a belt pistol after police disregarded and ignored his threat that he would kill himself if police approached him.
According to Harana News Agency, citing the Khorasan newspaper, at 6:30 PM on Saturday, Farvardin 20, police officers patrolling near Malik Ashtar Square in the Ghiathsadeh area of Tehran became suspicious of a 30-year-old man and ordered him to stop. However, the young man, upon seeing the officers, stepped back several paces and threatened them that if they took one more step forward, he would kill himself.
Three police officers did not take the young man’s threats seriously and moved toward him to arrest him. However, suddenly, when the young man was only a few steps away from the officers, he pulled out a Colt belt pistol from his pocket and, before the officers could react, placed the weapon against his temple and fired.
Following the young man’s death, the matter was reported to prosecutor Mohammad Hassan Zarei and an investigation was launched. In tests conducted by a weapons expert, his suicide was confirmed.
Investigations continue to determine the motive behind the suicide.
