New Security Claims from Tehran; Aghamohammadi Reports Entry of Armed Groups Trained in Israel and UAE

Ali Aghamohammadi, a member of the Expediency Discernment Council and a prominent figure close to the office of Ali Khamenei, has claimed that armed groups trained in Israel and the United Arab Emirates have entered Iran and are stationed in certain neighborhoods to carry out assassination operations. If accurate, this would indicate a serious security threat; however, this Islamic Republic official has provided no verifiable details or evidence for this claim.

On Wednesday, September 30, 2026 (Mehr 8, 1405), Aghamohammadi spoke with state radio and television, calling on citizens to be alert to what he described as “suspicious activities” in neighborhoods and to report suspected incidents to security agencies through phone numbers 113 and 114. He stated: “Groups have established themselves in neighborhoods to carry out assassination operations.”

This Islamic Republic official provided no explanation regarding the number of alleged individuals, when and how they entered the country, their location of residence, or whether any operations have been carried out so far. He did not clarify on what evidence or security reports the stated information is based. Some domestic reports have even mentioned the training of these individuals in Albania, while accounts circulated by foreign media outlets have primarily focused on the UAE and Israel.

Aghamohammadi also linked a possible visit by Benjamin Netanyahu, the Israeli Prime Minister, to the United Arab Emirates to this claim, stating that such a visit should be taken seriously. He claimed: “Netanyahu’s plan is for the UAE to fight us instead of Israel.” However, this claim was also made without presenting any documents or specific information about an operational plan.

Aghamohammadi’s statements come at a time when Islamic Republic officials have repeatedly warned in recent months about the activities of networks linked to Israel within Iran. In recent months, the security agencies of the Islamic Republic have also announced the arrest of individuals accused of cooperation with Israel or espionage activities. Nevertheless, the specific claim about the entry of armed groups trained in the UAE and Israel into Iran has not yet been accompanied by independent evidence from Aghamohammadi.

The importance of these statements lies in the fact that Aghamohammadi is not merely an ordinary political figure. He has a background in important structures of the Islamic Republic, including parliamentary representation, a deputy position at the state radio and television organization, and involvement in economic entities affiliated with the office of the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Republic. Iran Wire, citing his background, has introduced Aghamohammadi as an experienced figure close to the office of Ali Khamenei.

Consequently, what can currently be said with certainty about these statements is not the definitive entry of such groups into Iran, but rather the presentation of a security claim by one of the experienced officials of the Islamic Republic. This is a claim whose operational details have not been disclosed and for which no independent and verifiable evidence is available to confirm it. A request for citizens to report “suspicious activities” could also lead to increased sensitivity and monitoring at the neighborhood level in the existing security environment. For this reason, distinguishing between security warnings, intelligence claims, and proven facts is of particular importance.
